About
Shileta Cezario (she/her) is a musicologist, educator, and interdisciplinary artist whose work centers Black music history, African diasporic performance, cultural memory, and public-facing scholarship. Her research explores how music carries history, identity, movement, and memory, especially within Black diasporic communities and performance traditions.
Her recent work has focused on Black women’s performance histories, the cultural politics of popular music, East African musical structures and ancestral knowledge, and the ways music can hold history, community, and memory. Alongside her work as a scholar, Shileta is also a composer and vocalist whose artistic work is deeply connected to storytelling, history, and community.
She holds a B.M. in Contemporary Writing and Production from Berklee College of Music and an M.M. in Musicology from New England Conservatory, with a concentration in Teaching Artistry and Education. In her free time, she enjoys painting, playing Pokémon, and visiting museums.
